Connecting the World Through Sports, Enriching Every Guizhou Journey
“An extra surprise the moment we stepped off the plane—the costumes were beautiful, and the songs and dances were wonderful!” said Janos, coach of the Hungarian team competing at the 2026 Modern Pentathlon World Championships. At Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport, folk performances at Colorful Guizhou City, English greetings from airport guides, and rolling displays of Guizhou’s scenic landscapes gave Janos and his athletes a warm first impression of the province.
From August 24 to 30, more than 500 elite athletes from over 50 countries and regions gathered by Huaxi Lake in Guiyang to compete in fencing, obstacle racing, swimming and laser run. As the first world-class championship in an Olympic multi-discipline sport hosted by Guiyang, the event showcased Guizhou’s growing integration of culture, tourism and sport.
Guizhou Tourism Group played an active role across the entire event journey. Its subsidiaries worked together to provide services spanning event operations, accommodation, transport, tourism products, retail displays and visitor support—from airport arrival to hotels, competition venues and local attractions.
The Group’s sports-tourism company supported event delivery and coordination; Huaxi Guesthouse provided professional catering services; and its travel-services company developed tailored “Sports + Tourism” itineraries, including airport transfers, hotel arrangements, bilingual guides and attraction access. The newly upgraded Guizhou Tourist Information Service Center at the airport also welcomed athletes with folk-cultural experiences and multilingual travel assistance.
Around the venue, Guizhou’s distinctive products and experiences brought the destination closer to international visitors. “Guike Gifts” intangible-cultural-heritage products, “Qianshan Shiyi” fragrances, and local drinks such as rosa roxburghii americano coffee and matcha iced beverages gave athletes a taste of Guizhou beyond the competition. Volunteer members of the Group’s Returned Overseas Chinese Association also provided interpretation and guest-support services throughout the event.
The championships also turned sporting attention into tourism momentum. Through the “Follow the Events to Travel Guizhou” initiative, Guizhou Tourism Group created themed cultural, nature and leisure itineraries around ethnic traditions and karst landscapes. A lakeside marketplace combined specialty coffee, craft beer, intangible cultural heritage displays and sports experiences, helping convert event traffic into tourism consumption.
Before the competition, more than 100 overseas athletes visited Colorful Guizhou City, where they experienced local cuisine, cultural activities and landmark photo spots. Tailored travel products, bilingual driver-guide services, ticket-linked discounts, and themed Huaxi exploration maps further encouraged visitors to extend their stay and discover the region.
By using sport as a bridge to the world, Guizhou Tourism Group is turning international events into new opportunities for inbound tourism. From multilingual travel services and overseas-market promotion to personalized local hospitality, the Group is helping more global visitors experience Guizhou’s landscapes, culture and welcoming spirit.
