Sizhai Village
Drum towers and flower bridges echo ancient traditions, while wrestling displays heroic spirit.
Sizhai Village is a pure Dong ethnic village in Shuangjiang Town, Liping County, Southeast Guizhou, renowned as the “Hometown of Dong Wrestling.” Its core cultural treasure is the Dong Wrestling Festival, a tradition spanning over six centuries. Held annually on the fifteenth day of the third lunar month, wrestlers compete with cloth belts around their waists, relying solely on arm strength and skillful techniques—no leg-grabbing or kicking allowed. This ancient ritual showcases the Dong people's martial spirit and traditional wisdom.
The village exudes rustic charm, with stilt houses built along the hillside. The towering drum tower and exquisite wind-rain bridge serve as the center for villagers' discussions, relaxation, and singing. Here, Dong opera and grand Dong songs are preserved, and festivals often feature traditional activities like “carrying the official,” brimming with the authentic atmosphere of Dong life.
