Tucked away in the karst secret land of western Guizhou, the Sanjiang Ancient Trail was once a vital salt trade route connecting the past and the present. Hiking here, every bluestone slab beneath your feet is steeped in the stories of time. The trail winds along Wujiang Source Baili Gallery, hailed as "Mountains rival the Three Gorges,waters surpass them, waters mirror the Lijiang River, mountains outshine it". You'll encounter the pastoral beauty of Huawu Miao Village, gaze up at the world-class Yachi River Bridge, and finally stand before the magnificent confluence of the three rivers, feeling the eternal grandeur of nature interweave with human ingenuity.

Travel Guide

  • Carry-on items
    15-30L backpack, power bank, sufficient water, and high-energy snacks
    Essential gear
    Non-slip hiking shoes, quick-dry long sleeves and pants, and a windproof jacket

    Sun hat, sunglasses, insect repellent, and trekking poles
  • Road travel
    Search for "Huawu Scenic Area" on your navigation app. Take the Guiyang-Qianxi Expressway from Guiyang, which will take about 1.5 hours to drive.
    Public transportation
    Take a train from Guiyang North Station to Qianxi Station, then a taxi to the scenic area.

Photography tips

Head toward Yachi River Bridge in the afternoon for backlighting-free shots with clearer bridge structures; dusk is the golden hour to capture the bridge framed against sunset glow.

Pace management

The trail is quite long, so distribute your energy wisely. Watch your step, especially on slopes, and walk slowly sideways for safety.
