Zhaisha Dong Village
Scenic Area Introduction
Zhaisha Dong Village lies like a tranquil landscape painting along the banks of the Taiping River. With a forest coverage rate of 82.26% and air containing 120,000 to 160,000 negative oxygen ions per cubic centimeter, it is a true ecological sanctuary. Approximately 78.8% of the village's residents are Dong people who have lived here for generations, preserving ancient customs and traditions.
The densely packed stilt houses throughout the village are all constructed using exquisite mortise-and-tenon joinery, requiring not a single nail or rivet, embodying the ancient wisdom of living in harmony with nature. The majestic drum tower stands at the village center, serving as both a gathering place for villagers' meetings and a landmark for grand ceremonies. Here, you can listen to the Dong Grand Song, a UNESCO-recognized Intangible Cultural Heritage. Its multi-part, unaccompanied harmonies are clear and ethereal, echoing like mountain streams. A rustic suspension bridge spans the clear stream, connecting daily life with pastoral poetry. On the opposite bank, an ancient golden thread nanmu tree, known as the “General Tree,” has stood silent watch for centuries.
The charm of Zhaisa Dong Village lies in its vibrant cultural experiences. Visitors can immerse themselves in local life: stay in distinctive homestays that blend traditional and modern aesthetics; hand-pound glutinous rice to make sticky rice cakes, savoring the soft, sweet results; or join locals during traditional festivals like the Winter Solstice for lively “long table feasts” and “shaved soup banquets,” immersing in genuine warmth through Dong cuisine and toasting songs. At night, the bonfire gathering before the drum tower becomes the pinnacle of immersive Dong cultural experiences.
