Maling River Canyon
Scenic Area Introduction
Hailed as “the most beautiful scar on Earth,” Malin River Gorge is no ordinary valley. It is a massive fissure carved by flowing water into the karst plateau, stretching 74.8 kilometers long and plunging to depths of up to 280 meters. This unique geological formation has created a spectacular “Hundred-Mile Gallery” that combines majesty, wonder, peril, and beauty.
The most breathtaking sight here is the magnificent spectacle of nearly a hundred waterfalls cascading down both sides of the gorge. Within the prime section, the “Celestial Star Gallery,” over 20 waterfalls cascade within just 1.7 kilometers. Some roar like a thousand galloping horses, while others flow like delicate pearl-dusted veils. As you traverse the valley floor walkway, the surging waters whip up a misty spray. Sunlight often refracts through this spray, creating accompanying rainbows that make it feel like stepping into an ethereal fairyland. Experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences have lauded it as “combining the grandeur of Huangguoshu Waterfall, the peril of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze, the wonder of Huanglong, the beauty of Jiuzhaigou, and the elegance of Guilin.” This breathtaking fusion of majesty and delicacy earns it the well-deserved titles of “Kingdom of Waterfalls” and “The World's Premier Canyon.”
For travelers seeking an immersive experience, the optimal visiting period is during the abundant water season from June to September each year, when the waterfall complex is at its most spectacular. You can also cross the Maling River Canyon Bridge outside the scenic area, offering an unparalleled “bird's-eye view” to overlook the entire fissure. This miracle sculpted by nature's mighty forces awaits visitors from around the world to experience its primal beauty that touches the soul.
