Duyun Stone Slab Ancient Street
Scenic Area Introduction
In Duyun, a passageway spanning six centuries quietly narrates tales of past prosperity and modern vitality—this is Duyun Stone Slab Ancient Street.
Stepping onto the ancient street, one treads upon a winding alleyway paved with over ten thousand blue stone slabs. Polished smooth by centuries of foot traffic, the stone surfaces now gleam with a jade-like luster. Originally built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1398), this street once served as a vital trade route connecting Guizhou and Guangxi. In 1638, Xu Xiake, China's renowned ancient traveler, entered Duyun via this very path, his footsteps imbuing the area with profound cultural significance. Along both sides of the street, 88 Ming and Qing dynasty-style buildings with blue-tiled roofs and red walls stand in harmonious arrangement. Stone lions and ancient gate towers at both ends seem to guard the passage of time.
Yet Stone Slab Street is far from a static “museum.” By day, you can admire exquisite Miao silver ornaments, Shui paper-cutting, and other intangible cultural heritage crafts. As night falls, strings of red lanterns illuminate the street, revealing its enchanting nocturnal visage. The air fills with the aroma of local delicacies like sour soup noodles. Visitors can rent vibrant Miao or Buyi ethnic costumes to capture memorable photos against the ancient backdrop—a popular experience today. Year-round folk performances like Buyi wedding customs are staged here. During traditional festivals like Dragon Boat Festival, you may join locals in wrapping zongzi rice dumplings or crafting fragrant sachets, immersing yourself in the vibrant festive spirit. Notably, the film “The Unknowns” was filmed here, adding a unique modern artistic flair to the ancient street.
As a leisure district, Stone Slab Street seamlessly blends history with the present. We recommend combining your visit with nearby attractions like Xishan Bridge and the Qin-Han Film City, renowned for its spectacular ancient-style architecture, to complete a profound cultural journey.
