Xifeng Concentration Camp

Scenic Area Introduction

Located in the mountainous region of Guizhou, Xifeng Concentration Camp was the largest and highest-level secret prison of its time. It stands alongside Chongqing's Baigongguan and Jiangxi's Shangrao Concentration Camp as one of China's most notorious detention sites. Over 1,200 Communist Party members, patriotic democrats, and progressive students were imprisoned here, including the renowned patriotic general Yang Hucheng. More than 600 of them perished within these walls. High walls, barbed wire, and cramped “cell rooms” labeled with codes like “Loyalty,” “Filial Piety,” “Benevolence,” and “Love” stand as silent testaments to that dark chapter of history. Yet, it was precisely within this extreme oppression that an indomitable spirit took root. The prisoners established a secret party branch, supporting each other in the face of despair and demonstrating an iron will that etched humanity's yearning for freedom into history.

Today, this site stands as a solemn memorial, designated a National Key Cultural Heritage Site. History remains unburied, reborn through technology and art. In recent years, the memorial underwent comprehensive upgrades, employing dynamic multimedia, scene reconstruction, and interactive sound-and-light technology to make history tangible and immersive. You can “step into” a replica of the “Cat Cave” interrogation room to experience the cruelty of that era, or engage in a dialogue across time and space with historical figures through AI interaction. It reveals to us that regardless of era or location, humanity's pursuit of dignity, justice, and faith, along with the power to maintain courage and hope in adversity, is universal. What is told here is the eternal story of resisting darkness and cherishing light.
