Scenic Area Overview
Weining Caohai is a natural highland freshwater lake situated next to Weining County, the "Rooftop of Guizhou". It is reputation as the "Pearl of the Plateau" and "Home to Countless Birds". As a national nature reserve, it is one of the most important wintering grounds for rare birds endemic to China black-necked cranes, and a key stop on the global migratory bird route. Scenery here varies distinctly with the seasons, with the most spectacular views in winter. Tens of thousands of migratory birds overwinter here, with swans gliding gracefully and cranes crying to the sky, presenting a breathtaking sight. More than a natural wonder, Caohai is a crucial wetland that maintains the ecological balance of the northeastern Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.
