Bowl Rice Cake

Sweet memories fermented by time.

At dawn in Guizhou's alleyways, a rice cake shaped like a small bowl releases a faintly sweet aroma, awakening the city's taste memories—this is the bowl rice cake.

This craft is an art of time and temperature. Glutinous rice is soaked, ground into paste, and quietly fermented in ancient clay vats before meeting brown or white sugar. When the rice paste is poured into special molds, steam rises as the cake naturally blooms like a flower, forming distinctive bowl-shaped rims—hence its name.

Freshly steamed bowl rice cakes are snow-white or golden yellow, fluffy and soft like sponge yet retaining the distinctive chewiness of rice grains. The initial taste is gentle sweetness, followed by a subtle tang—a mark of natural fermentation. Refreshing and never cloying, it hits the perfect note.
