Chishui River Red Army Bridge
A Canyon Suspension Bridge on the Red Memory.
Introduction
The Chishui River Red Army Bridge stands in the Wumeng Mountains at the Sichuan-Guizhou border, within the historic revolutionary base of the “Four Crossings of the Chishui River.” As China's only bridge named after the Red Army, it spans 2,009 meters with a main span of 1,200 meters. Its 243.5-meter-tall portal tower on the Guizhou bank rises 503.5 meters above the water surface, setting the world record for the tallest tower on a mountainous canyon suspension bridge. The Sichuan side's 78.35-meter tunnel anchor boasts the world's most distinctive silhouette. The bridge's two main cables contain approximately 60,000 kilometers of steel wire—enough to circle the Earth one and a half times. Since opening in January 2020, it has reduced the two-hour detour between Sichuan and Guizhou to a mere 10 minutes, becoming both a vital transportation artery linking revolutionary heritage sites and a monumental engineering feat in mountainous infrastructure.
This bridge serves as an exceptional viewpoint for both red tourism and canyon scenery. It overlooks the Chishui River, which winds through the gorge like a crimson ribbon. In the morning mist, the bridge appears to float among the clouds, while at sunset, the main tower and steel cables cast magnificent silhouettes. It links the historic sites of the Four Crossings of the Chishui River—including Taipingdu and Erlangtan—along with wine culture destinations like Xijiu Town and Maotai Town. As a pivotal node in the “Red Tourism + Ecology + Wine Culture” loop, it offers visitors the unique experience of “bridging revolutionary memories while viewing canyon vistas from the road.”
Named in honor of revolutionary history, it carries forward the spirit of the Long March. Every traveler passing overhead gains a bird's-eye perspective, deciphering the military marvel of the Four Crossings of the Chishui River and the formidable strength of modern infrastructure. They feel the deep fusion of revolutionary heritage and the serene beauty of the landscape, remembering the timeless ambition and warmth embodied by this suspension bridge monument standing tall along the banks of the red river.
