Hongshui River Bridge

A Gem of Asymmetric Cable-Stayed Bridges.

Introduction

Hongshui River Bridge spans the U-shaped gorge of the Hongshui River at the border of Luodian County, Guizhou Province, and Tian'e County, Guangxi. As the world's first and longest-span asymmetric hybrid composite cable-stayed bridge, spanning 956 meters with a main span of 508 meters. Its 195.1-meter bridge tower supports the asymmetrical span and main girder structure, resembling a giant dragon soaring over the emerald waters. Construction teams innovatively employed cable-supported lifting and long-distance jacking techniques to overcome terrain constraints in complex mountainous areas, establishing a comprehensive technical system. The bridge serves as a vital transportation artery linking Guizhou and Guangxi provinces, while its unique structural aesthetics have earned it numerous technical awards.

The bridge's viewing platform offers close-up views of the asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge's mechanical beauty. Below, the Hongshui River winds like an emerald ribbon through the gorge, flanked by layered karst peaks and Buyei villages with wisps of smoke rising from chimneys—a harmonious blend of natural landscapes and human culture. It links tourist attractions including the Da Xiaojing Scenic Area, Tian'e Longtan Hydropower Station, and the Buyi Ethnic Culture Park, becoming a must-visit landmark for self-driving tourists crossing provincial borders. Beyond being an artery uniting Southwest China's transportation network, it serves as a cultural bridge connecting ethnic traditions and a prosperity bridge driving regional development.

When sunlight bathes the bridge deck, the shadows of its cable stays gently sway upon the emerald waters, as if whispering tales of grand ambition and tender affection that transcend mountains and rivers. Every passerby can feel the majesty of nature and the grandeur of human ingenuity, deciphering the unique charm of this asymmetrical gem within Guizhou's “Bridge Museum.”
