Beipanjiang Bridge

This bridge was awarded the International Bridge Gold Prize.

Introduction

The Hangzhou-Ruili Expressway goes through the middle of the Wumeng Mountains. There is an orange-red steel bridge called the Beipanjiang Bridge which goes across the Beipanjiang Grand Canyon. The bridge is between Liupanshui, Guizhou and Xuanwei, Yunnan.

This bridge is 1,341.4 meters long. It goes across the canyon. The main part of the bridge is 720 meters long. The deck of the bridge is 565.4 meters above the river. That is like being on a 190-story skyscraper. The bridge won the Gustave Eiffel Award. This award is for bridge engineering. It is called the “Nobel Prize” of bridge engineering.

Building a bridge in the middle of karst canyons is like “building a ladder in the clouds.” Visit the viewing platform in Dugu Town, Liupanshui, to stand at the edge of the canyon and look up at the bridge—a steel dragon connecting the sky. Below, the Beipan River flows quickly under the bridge, and in the distance, you can see the Wumeng Mountains with their many layers. Every picture you take will have a beautiful view. You could also drive across the bridge to feel the excitement of “racing through the clouds.” You'll be able to look down through your car window at the deep, beautiful canyon.

This famous bridge in Guizhou's “bridge museum” connects to lesser-known gems like Beipanjiang Grand Canyon, Wumeng Grassland, and Tuole Ancient Ginkgo Village. While visiting the world's tallest bridge, you'll also get to see the beautiful karst landscapes and experience the Yi ethnic culture at the Yunnan-Guizhou border. The bridge is a symbol of China's building skills and a must-see destination for travelers exploring the mountains and seas.
